The repair must be wider than the damage
Joint compound is feathered beyond the cut or crack so the surface changes gradually. A tight repair can be smooth and still cast a visible shadow.
Texture and sheen both matter
- Match the texture pattern and density
- Prime the repaired compound before paint
- Blend or repaint to a natural break
- Inspect from more than one angle with lights on
Older paint can fade, so a perfect color match in the can may still flash on the wall. The estimate should explain where the repaint will stop.
